The exhibition will be one of the projects in the anniversary exhibition programme celebrating AEDES' 40th anniversary. It has been chosen as a significant social project and a unique example of support for young architects at the national level. "The Russian youth architecture Biennale is truly unique – there is nothing like it in the world,” says Kristin Feireiss, founder of AEDES Architecture Forum, curator, architecture critic, and member of the jury for the Pritzker Prize. “And the fact that Russia was the first country to organize a competition like this is eloquent evidence of its interest in motivating, supporting, and promoting the future generation of Russian architects."
According to the architect Sergei Tchoban, who curates the biennale, the event aims to provide opportunities for young professionals to implement projects in Russia, build communication with regional authorities, and present their work to a European audience.
The winners' projects will be shown not only as two-dimensional presentation boards, but also as 3D models and will be supplemented by video interviews filmed specially for the exhibition in which the young architects will talk about themselves, their projects, and the importance of this competition for their professional careers. The second section of the exhibition will be dedicated to Tatarstan as the biennale’s initiator and the region where it takes place; Tatarstan has accumulated unique experience in implementing projects for public spaces and socially significant amenities, especially projects involving young architects.
The project will be presented in Berlin by Nataliya Fishman-Bekmambetova, aide to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Sergei Tchoban, the biennale’s curator, and the winners of the Second Russian Architecture Biennale for Young Architects – Aleksandr Alyaev, (Moscow, Santekhpribor, Gold), KB 11 (Ufa, Santekhpribor, Silver), CHVOYA (St Petersburg, Santekhpribor, special mention), LETO (Pavel Kultyshev, Dmitrii Prikhodko) (Moscow, Port Elevator, Gold), Megabudka (Moscow, Port Elevator, Silver), Azat Akhmadulin (Ufa, Port Elevator, special mention), Kseniya Vorobeva (Moscow, special prize awarded by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan), Ilya Obodovsky (Simferopol, special prize awarded by of the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation).
"The main idea of the biennale is to enable young professionals to implement unique modern projects,” says Nataliya Fishman-Bekmambetova. “In Berlin the young architects will show the European audience what they can do and demonstrate unique solutions to problems of great complexity."
The Russian Architecture Biennale for Young Architects is a national competition which was established by the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2017 in order to identify and promote the best young architects in Russia. The biennale is held in Innopolis, the youngest and most innovative city in Russia; its participants are Russian architects up to the age of 35. The biennale’s curator and chairman of the jury is Sergei Tchoban, head of SPEECH (Russia) and Tchoban Voss Architekten (Germany) and winner of the European Prize for Architecture. Its director is Nataliya Fishman-Bekmambetova, aide to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
